As if there was not enough to think about right now, the Government announced last night that it is delaying the introduction of new rules for the private sector on off-payroll working arrangements for freelance contractors by one year to April 2021. This is badged as a direct response to the corona crises and is not an indication of a change in policy.
You may well have already completed and agreed an assessment with your engager company or agency; if so, this announcement will not affect you. However, if an assessment has not yet been completed or if you are currently arguing your status with your engager, technically this process is now irrelevant until April 2021.
We strongly recommend you contact your engaging company or agency as soon as possible to point out the change in the rules and to find out what they intend to do about it. Whilst they may not wish to reverse their own implementation process at this late stage, it is hoped that you will be in a strong position to challenge this and delay any proposed change for one year.
If you need further information, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
